WRAG Committee Meetings 26th January & 11th March

The principal topic at WRAG's recent committee meetings has been the proposal to acquire all or part of the former Railway Institute on Tibshelf Road as a community room.

After discussion with the independent valuation adviser it was resolved to look into the possibility of a short-term lease of part of the building. A more limited project of this nature would enable the group to test the viability of running a community room in the village.

BRS ClubW.R.A.G. are at present looking into the possibility of acquiring the former BRS Club on Tibshelf Road for the community.

The BRS Club was originally built by the Railway as a Social Club for the workers in Westhouses, over time it has been purchased by private individuals and run as various concerns, none of them really being a major hit. The BRS Club is now on the open market and we have been looking into various ideas for the past 6 months.

Westhouses is one of only two places in the entire of Bolsover that doesn't have a community building and we think it would be great to remedy that, the BRS Club as it stands is also an eyesore.

Westhouses desperately needs somewhere for the children, teenagers, elderly, families etc to be able to call there own and for it to be tailored to the needs of local people - whether that means IT faculties and broadband access or a stage area and community space or even a community shop.

W.R.A.G. are currently looking to obtain funding to be able to carry out feasibility studies to find out exactly what it is we need as a community. At the present time a pro help funding application has been filled out and we await the response, we have also attended a meeting with Neil Smith, a Central Government Funding contact, to point us to the right direction.

CVP have been giving us there full support.

We would love to hear any ideas your have.

If you have any questions, ideas or if indeed you would just like to go on the mailing list for the latest updates please send us your e-mail address HERE

COME ON EVERYONE WE NEED LOTS OF SUPPORT ON THIS ONE LETS GIVE WESTHOUSES THE FACILTES IT DESERVES

UPDATE
Our interest as a Group has now been logged with Community Builders which is a new funding stream to be launched in September.

We have secured the architects and surveys and have a pledge of monies from the Open Casting.
