WRAG Achievements

New Village Signs

These will soon be erected on all three Village entrances and will have a beautiful floral arrangement beside them

Village Planters Village Planters

This was one of the group's first achievements; they are sited on 2 of the entrances into the village the approach from Alfreton and the approach from Tibshelf.
The funds for the planters were raised by the Group and Martins also helped with a sponsorship of £50.00.
They are maintained by the group and planted throughout the year with summer and winter displays.
We feel they make a welcoming display at the entrances to the village

Multi - Use Games Area (MUGA) Multi - Use Games Area (MUGA)

This has been one of proudest and biggest achievements, when we were in our early days 2 members who had children Shelly and Paula came up with a idea that the children in the village would really benefit from a knock up wall to play football against - they took there idea to the next W.R.A.G. meeting and everyone was firmly behind the idea.
At the time C.V.P. were attending our meeting to help and give us guidance - C.V.P. suggested that instead of looking for funding just for a knock up wall why didn't we pursue the idea of  'MUGA'. We scoffed at the idea and felt it was far out of our reach but thought in for a penny in for a pound!!
The rest is history, through a lot of hard work and commitment from WRAG members and the help of the teenagers in the village the funding was secured from the youth capital fund.
We now have a fantastic MUGA on the park, it is used by all different age groups (adults included) and many sports can be played on it.

BinsBins

With the outstanding success of the MUGA came another problem that we realised we needed to resolve, as the MUGA was used so often and being a sports facility we had a mounting pile of empty drinks containers.
The Parish Council were great and the Caretaker regularly cleared the area but we knew we needed to sort some bins out so the children had somewhere to dispose of there rubbish - the bins needed to be large, robust and lockable.
The funding was secured through the Parish Council and W.R.A.G.

Dog FowlingDog Fouling

Westhouses was suffering from a serious dog fouling issue that we hope, although not totally solved, is a lot better through hard work and a team effort from Andrew, Bolsover's Dog Warden, Blackwell Parish Council and Westhouses Residents Group. Andrew, Bolsover's Dog Warden has made regular  visits to Westhouses accompanied by representatives from the Parish Council and W.R.A.G. and between us we have updated signage, put down pavement signs and tried to generally increase peoples awareness. Andrew has also sent in Bolsover's Deep Clean Team on a number of occasions to clean the park and verges. Free 'poo bags' are available for Blackwell Parish residents either from Richard, the Parish Caretaker or from Paula Wilkinson at 50 Alfreton Road, Westhouses - please feel free to call for some. Hopefully we are now on top of the situation.
